Our style and what we stand for

Since the foundation of the Swiss Center for Capoeira in 2016, we have worked hard to spread this fascinating sport in Switzerland. We integrate and combine a variety of different styles and have our roots in the style Cordão de Ouro, which means "the golden cord" in Portuguese. The focus is on movement, flow, and acrobatics and is known for its dynamic and creative style.

Our mission is to enable each child and adult to freely express their individuality. In a playful setting, we enjoy movement and social interaction. In doing so, we strengthen awareness, creativity and coordination. In addition to this, making music and singing together promotes hearing, tact and thus also reduces stress.

Contramestre Boaz

I got into the world of Capoeira as a small child, and the hobby developed quite quickly into a passion. Meanwhile, I have been teaching children and adults worldwide for over 15 years. This includes regular trainings, shows, workshops, special courses and much more. Because of my history, we have a strong connection to the Israeli Center for Capoeira, which was founded almost 40 years ago by Master Daniel & Master Edan.

I started my Capoeira path with Master Joe Pequeno, who opened his groups in 1998 under direct supervision of his Master Edan. "They are all my role models to this day and taught me a lot; including authentic and inclusive group leadership, the importance of strong community values and how to professionally guide development processes. It's great to be part of such a strong community!"

Community & Teacher

We are proud of our multicultural, fun, warm and diverse community. We currently unite people from over 24 countries! To ensure the long-term continuity and growth of our community, we train our long-time students as teachers in special trainings and let them gain teaching experience on Wednesdays in Zurich under the supervision of Contramestre Boaz.

History of Capoeira in a glimpse

Capoeira nowadays is a mix of dance, fighting elements, movement, music and acrobatics. But this Afro-Brazilian martial art is more than just a martial art. Capoeira is a world cultural heritage born in the dark time of slavery in Brazil. The African-originated slaves developed a way to strengthen themselves, preparing for their fight for freedom, disguising their techniques as dance, otherwise risking facing a death penalty. Capoeira is therefore a symbol for freedom of body and mind, equality, self empowerment and self dignity.

Today, capoeira is taught in schools around the world, with infinite number of different styles and variations. Music plays a central role. It sets the pace for the fighters in the roda (=circle), document the story and create an energetic atmosphere. You can learn more about the exciting history and culture of Capoeira as well the music in capoeira in our blog.
